Rachel Levit Ruiz

Rachel Levit Ruiz Illustrator/Visual Artist encourages inspirations from different ways of thinking and stepping away from looking into trends but draw inspiration from the culture around you, old sculptures and getting stuck into books. ✏️

What are some of your earliest creative memories and what lead you into design?

When I was 5 I wanted to be a painter. I have been a visual person since I can remember! I think it was the only thing I could actually be good at.

What are your three must-read design books, blogs or podcasts and why?

I don't listen to design podcasts or read design books. In my opinion, it's more stimulating to read about different topics. The last podcast I listened and became obsessed with is Caliphate, produced by the New York Times. A very inspiring book I read this year was Circe by Madeline Miller.

How did you develop your style as an illustrator and what tips would you have for others?

For me, it was a matter of practising and perfecting (while still keeping looseness and room for evolution). Everyone has a special way of finding their true voice. What I would say is to not look at contemporary illustration too much... find references in older art, books, sculptures...Be inspired by the culture that surrounds you.

What career advice would you give your 16yr old self?

Stop caring about what other people think of you.

What do you look for in a great client?

An exciting prompt and an adequate budget (Although lately, I am more interested in working with people that respect the work: decent deadlines, fewer revisions, etc )

What advice would you give students starting out?

Make work that is true to yourself!
