Erretres

We chatted to Marco Cofrades Dávila, graphic designer at Erretres, about the growing design culture in Spain. He talks to us about how he sees the increasing role of intelligent personalisation and experiences in design, and shares a few design crushes to check out.

Give us the elevator pitch on what you do.

I started designing when I was just thirteen, which has since grown into a profound interest in the relationship between design and technology, and how this can help improve our lives.

How does the local culture of where you live affect your design work and getting clients?

I think that, in Spain, people in general aren’t too concerned about the importance of design as in other countries. Luckily for us, however, this has now begun to change.

I started in design working within the field of music, designing album art, posters, animations, etc. Musicians and artists in general tend to value design more than others, and this gave me the motivation to keep on improving.

What are your top 5 local design things our readers can check out?

In recent years, I have discovered so many awesome designers and studios that I love, but I keep coming across new ones almost every day.

My global top five right now are: Jessica Walsh, Folch Studio, Samuel Burgess-Johnson, Querida Studio, and Gretel.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Try it. It might look impossible, but you never know until you try it.

It might look impossible, but you never know until you try it.

Where do you think design is heading in the next five years and how will you adapt?

I think augmented reality, big data, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality will play a big role in design in years to come. Design will become more based on intelligent personalisation and on experiences than ever before, and so I try to focus my work within these fields.

2019 for you in a sentence.

A continuous work in progress.
