I remember drawing Daffy Duck at school. It took me ages but I remember the excitement of nailing the drawing, or at least thought I had. I can’t say that art is something I ever thought I could do, because besides the Daffy Duck story, I was terrible at drawing. I loved Art Attack and despite all of Neil Buchanan’s sage advice, my executions were often hilariously lacklustre, courtesy of a natural gift of clumsiness. On the other hand, I was much better with computers, and discovering that I could use them as a tool was a second chance at something I really enjoyed.
I have a tendency to say yes to lots of things. At the heart of it, I’m still very much a kid who gets excited by an idea and subsequently obsessed with understanding how to make it. It also often means that I say yes to things when I have no idea how to make them. It’s actually been a great approach despite how reckless it sounds - I’ve learnt so much more by jumping in the deep end. This means my days are often unpredictable depending on the nature of whats on, whether it’s sketching, researching, prototyping, painting or animating.
Draw more.
I’m currently designing my first stage in collaboration with Sugar Mountain Festival. Further, the installation is going to have an Augmented Reality layer to it where users can wander around the space and bring the art to life with their devices. All of this plus an incredible lineup of music is going to make for a pretty memorable day.
In addition to Sugar Mountain, I’m excited to be working on a music video in the new year, as well as some Virtual Reality experiments!
