Hollie Fuller

A big congrats to Hollie Fuller (@holliefuller_), one of our 30 TDK Awards winners' for 2020. A Leeds Arts University graduate from Lincolnshire, their work was chosen by James Gilmore from @__designstudio__ in Sydney: 'Hollie's work exudes charm and warmth. Her ability to tell a compelling story clearly and confidently with a limited set of forms, colours and textures really impressed me. Her work with the Hepworth Wakefield drew me in, intelligently balancing the subject matter and a playful approach. I'm excited to follow her progress over the next few years to see how her style grows and develops.'. We asked Hollie to answer a few questions for next years TDK Awards hopefuls.

What do you wish you’d known now when you started your design course?

That everything is fine. You really don't need to worry about all of the things all of the time.

What originally lead you in to design, and how has that changed - what do you want to do/are doing now?

I've just always loved drawing. It was the one thing enjoyed that I was actually sort of OK at. And that still stands today. I can't ever imagine doing anything else, which is slightly terrifying. I just wanna draw forever. Do what I love, forever.

Any hot tips for getting ahead at uni?

I don't think I was ever ahead at uni, so I don't have any proper advice to offer. Just do your own thing and go with the flow. Enjoy what you're doing as much as you can. Spend time with nice people. Take your tutor's advice, sometimes. Stay hydrated.

What do you love about the design scene in your city and what companies are on your dream list to work or collaborate with?

I live in a small town so there isn't much of a design scene at all. Since moving home after graduating, I'm becoming more aware of local creatives and indie businesses, but it won't ever have the same feeling as the creative community of a big city. That's definitely something I miss.

Oh, so many dream clients and projects. I'd love to work on more projects with art galleries and museums. Tate and Yorkshire Sculpture Park would be such dream clients.

Enjoy what you're doing as much as you can.

Where do you see your career in 5 years?

Hopefully I'll still be drawing nice things for nice people. Maybe working from a proper studio with big windows and plants and a dog named Toast.

2020 for you in a sentence

What is happening to me?
