Brighton-based designer and creative powerhouse Funda Yahya is all about craft, community, and connection. With 16 years of experience spanning Istanbul, Milan, and the UK, she’s honed her expertise in brand and communication design—working across industries from publishing to tech.

Funda has a deep love for all things handmade, from letterpress printing to notebook binding. Since 2019, she’s been running notebook-binding workshops, sharing her passion for tangible design and the art of making.

Now, as the TDK City Host for Brighton, she’s bringing her energy and experience to the local design scene, curating events that inspire and connect creatives. From hosting TDK Tuesdays with industry pros to championing Brighton’s creative spaces, she’s building a hub for designers to learn, share, and grow. We caught up with Funda to chat about her love for design, her favorite local spots, and what’s coming up for the Brighton creative community.

Can you share the moment or experience that sparked your passion for design?

Beyond my professional career, I have a deep passion for letterpress printing, notebook binding, and typography. Since 2019, I’ve been organising notebook-binding workshops, sharing my love for craft with others.

Why did you want to become a TDK City Host?

I am a multidisciplinary designer with a strong focus on brand and communication design, based in Brighton, UK. Studied Master’s degree in Visual Design from Scuola Politecnica di Design in Milan. With 16 years of experience, I have worked on a wide range of projects, including corporate identity, design systems, and concept development, across Istanbul, Milan, and the UK.

I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with incredible companies—from small startups to global corporations—across industries such as publishing, advertising, and software/technology.

Beyond my professional career, I have a deep passion for letterpress printing, notebook binding, and typography. Since 2019, I’ve been organising notebook-binding workshops, sharing my love for craft with others.

I enjoy exploring museums and bookshops, attending design events, and engaging with others in the design community to nurture innovative networks.

Nick Sayers: International artist, maker, graphic designer. Science-inspired art from recycled materials from Brighton, UK.
