Tell us about where you studied and some of your highlights and favourite lecturers.
I’ve started studying graphic design in 2017 at UDESC (State University of Santa Catarina) and in 2023 got my bachelor’s degree. One of the things I like the most in graphic design is being able to cross and explore different fields and medias to tell a visual message or story. There’s always new ways and things to learn. UDESC was a really good place to practice different techniques besides the digital ones.
What weird and wonderful things are you obsessed with right now that inspires your creative work?
Recently, I've been obsessed with lamps, home decor and documentaries about nature and animals.
Favourite travel destinations that inspire you?
I find it very inspiring and magical the atmosphere of being surrounded by mountains and how small they can make us feel. So, for me, a little cabin is a fun destination.
My family is from Rio, Brazil and when I'm there spending time with my grandparents I feel encouraged to do things. And lastly, Japan was a transformative experience for me. Among many aspects, it was a very visually rich experience.
Tell us about your tools / what tech, programs, equipment and environment do you do your best work in?
I don't think I have anything special or specific "rituals" in my work process. However, having a routine is important for me. I like to be in cold environments, with some coffee and music going on. In most cases, I go between the sketchbook and the computer.
Which 3 creatives do you look up to and why?
I grew up around my grandma's (Toshiko) paintings. Her art and way of viewing the world has always been a big influence in my life. I admire her very much.
Another creative influence that has made an impact in my life was the first time I watched 'Spirited Away'. I was a little kid and I remember being moved by a feeling of ambiguity and wanting to be a part of that magical world.
Since then, I've watched many of Miyazaki's work and his approach in telling stories has inspired me through the years.
What are your biggest hopes and dreams for 2025, both for the world and your career?
I really like to see people finding time to invest in their interests, hobbies and personal projects. I hope this year I can do the same. Dedicate myself more to personal projects and perhaps bringing them closer to my career in some way.
