We chat with byHAUS founder & graphic designer Philippe Archontakis about his favourite podcast at the moment — The Observatory; his time working on his school newspaper back in the 80's, plus he shares some succinct advice for students wanting to open their own studio.
We LOVE Thomas José Henri's dreamlike and inventive set-designs -- they're so fun and vivid. We chat with the From Brittany Art Director / Set Designer about working with his sister in Paris for Japanese brand Issey Miyake, his dad's print shop in Brittany, France; and that time he was in the shower and decided he would never go back to school.
We chat with bizarre bizarre Art Director Maxime Francout about his transition from illustration to design over the last 15 years, what he looks for in a great portfolio, and buying books just for the typography.
We recently got to chat with Freelance Graphic Designer and Illustrator, Emmanuelle Charneau aka. Piece Of Paper. We discuss how to separate client work and personal projects with different processes & approaches, her new collaborative project Sale Caractère and her love and nostalgia about paper as a medium.
We love how Cécile Gariepy's illustrations put a little smile on our faces 😂 Cécile started out on a completly different career path and started doodling to make herself laugh—and we're so glad she did! Cécile shares some of the leasons she's learned on her path to becoming an illustrator and what the creative scene is like in Montreal.
We're loving Raymond Biesinger's illustrative style. Raymond's style has evolved from ethics, habits, family history, his experiences, etc., rather than taking from other design/illustrated influences—attracting clients from all ends of the spectrum!
As a designer that's not a fan of routine Cathrine D'Amours co-founded nouvelleadministration.com to keep her on her toes! Continually wanting to push boundaries and evolve towards new ways of communicating, Cathrine shares with us where she thinks design is headed.

A big congrats to Dang Vo, one of our 30 TDK Awards’ winners for 2018. A UQAM university graduate from Montreal (and now in Washington D.C.), his work was chosen by Tad from Carpenter Collective: “I will admit that I am a sucker for strong brand identity work especially when applied to food packaging. This designer’s book has several successful examples of thoughtful identity systems and creative packaging solutions. Many of the designer’s projects stood out, but the ‘Ancobaleno” chocolate packaging and how it was ultimately presented really took this from a student portfolio to a professional one”. We asked Dang to answer a few questions for next years TDK Awards’ hopefuls.
A big congrats to Amélie Lehoux, one of our 30 TDK Awards’ winners for 2018. A Université du Québec à Montréal graduate from Montreal, their work was chosen by Tad from Carpenter Collective: “Many things drew me to Amélie’s work. The strong sense of whimsy, the unexpected color palettes and subtle yet well thought-out conceptual iconography in each piece. But what put this book over the top for me was the designers willingness to explore and push various styles and mediums with such ease”. We asked Amélie to answer a few questions for next years TDK Awards’ hopefuls.
