Typography-focused designer Karin Moshkovitz, a TDK 2025 Award winner, recently graduated from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. Her time at Bezalel — filled with strong mentorship, close friendships, and a “Hogwarts-like” creative atmosphere — shaped her love for complex typographic systems, book design, and socially engaged visual communication. Now based in Tel Aviv, she continues exploring type with curiosity, colour, and playful experimentation.

Tell us about where you study/studied and some of your highlights and favourite lecturers and if you are self taught, how did you do it?!

I am a recent graduate of the Visual Communication Department at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. It was one of the most beautiful periods of my life — a magical experience, like studying at Hogwarts. During that time, I formed close bonds with exceptionally talented individuals who became my closest friends, while also having the privilege of learning from remarkable and inspiring mentors who set an exceptional standard of creativity and dedication. My three most influential mentors were: Prof. Dana Gez, Head of the Department, who taught me how to create complex and smart typographic systems and sparked my love for book design; Prof. Anat Katsir who instilled in me a profound passion for typography and taught me that design can and should be an agent for social change; and last but not least, Prof. Ayal Zakin who taught me how to create richness and flavor in micro-typography and to always ask myself: what type of energy does my design convey?

Tell us about your tools / what tech, programs, equipment and environment do you do your best work in?

I always carry a notebook with me, where I jot down ideas or sketch rough drafts (during my studies, I was known as the one who writes everything down). Sometimes I switch to Procreate for more detailed sketches. When it's time to execute, I move on to Adobe software, Figma and Glyphs. Design calls for creativity and playfulness, so I like my workspace to feel like a playground. I always keep a notebook with an ultra-colorful cover by my side, sketch with children's markers, and listen to my favorite radio show, Elton John's "Rocket Hour", in the background.

Tell us some of your favourite, creative professionals and inspiring places in your city!

My three favorite design studios are Paper! Tiger! — Design graphique, M/M Paris and Zoo, Designers Graphiques. All three are located in Paris, and every project they release makes me think, "I wish I had created that". A few years ago, I visited the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris for an exhibition about hair styling across history. There, I discovered the exhibition catalog designed by Aurélien Farina from Paper! Tiger!. That catalog featured the font Hanol by Bouk Ra, whose elegant strokes have a delicate hair-like feel. I was so captivated by the design and typography that in that moment, I realized there is no profession more amazing than graphic design. As for places that inspire me in the city where I live, by no means it's the beach in Tel-Aviv. Whenever I feel stuck on a project, I take a break and walk there. For me, the sea is the best therapist.

What are your biggest hopes and dreams for 2026, both for the world and your career?

For myself, I wish to work with interesting people. For the world, I wish worthy leaders.
